Proliferative diabetic retinopathy in long-term diabetic patients with and without clinical osteoarthritis

This patient is a 72-year-old Caucasian female with type 1 DM and RA, with onset of both diabetes and arthritis at the same time, 35 years previously. Retinal (fundus) images are normal and show no sign of diabetic retinopathy.
